Dolly Parton passed away today at the age of 80; earlier this year she was having a number of health problems. A great country music singer and an even greater songwriter, she has been one of the most important and influential people in American music in the past half century.
Probably the most successful song written by her (although she penned so many hits, both for herself and others, that it's surprisingly difficult to decide):
"I Will Always Love You"
A song that I would say is probably her most Dolly-Parton-ish:
"Jolene"
But in some ways, I think this hit from the 1970s is still her best song:
"Coat of Many Colors"
