I have Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (Part One) sitting unopened on my shelf, where it's been since I received it as a gift and haven't had time to invest in starting a new series. I'd like to see it someday. Here's the song I always associate with Fullmetal. It makes me feel faintly nostalgic, and also faintly queasy, since I watched the original while in the throes of morning sickness -- ten years ago, oh my gosh I'm so old.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dd1V816mVdU
Brotherhood and the original anime are very closely linked -- Brotherhood is not a sequel, but covers similar ground. The difference is that the original anime was done when the manga on which it was based was still being developed, whereas Brotherhood is based on the manga as it actually developed. Thus the writers for the original anime were sometimes just guessing about where the manga storyline would be going. The overall storylines have similarities, but Brotherhood's pacing is better, and it meanders less, and since the original anime outpaced the manga it was based on, the central villain is completely different. I like FMAB quite a bit; it is very nicely done.
I read some of the manga after we watched the first series, and it did take some different turns. But I've probably forgotten enough of the plot developments by this time that it would all seem fresh to me. I hope Brotherhood has kept the same voice talent, though -- we watched the English dub when it came out on Cartoon Network, back when we had cable, and we grew very attached to the voices. (I guess I could resolve this question by getting up and walking to the living room to look at the Brotherhood case, but then there would be no mystery in my life.)
I always watch the sub rather than the dub, so I don't know anything about the voice talent on the latter.
